Crew Profile

Captain: Chris Thomson

Born and bred on the South Coast of England, Chris learned to sail from a very early age, going on to race dinghies competitively around Europe and taking family sailing holidays around the Greek Islands. Life on the water is in his blood and whether it’s spending a weekend on the family yacht, “Bright Oyster” or taking to the waves windsurfing, there’s nothing he likes more than to get out in the elements during his time off. And when the conditions aren’t quite right for any of the above, then Chris is more than likely to be enjoying a round on the local golf course or a game of squash. Having worked in a marina during weekends at college, Chris’s professional yachting career officially began at the age of eighteen when he joined his first yacht as a deckhand. A year and a half later, he returned home to start his BSC in Marine Technology and after completion in 2005, went straight back to yachting. Destined to work on yachts long term, Chris continued his studies to obtain an ‘MCA Master of Yachts up to 3000GT License’. Having lost count of the times he has crossed the Atlantic, Chris has cruised both the Mediterranean and Caribbean extensively, as well as the Baltic, Indian Ocean and West and East Coasts of the United States. Chris’s extensive knowledge and experience mean that he can easily recommend many exciting destinations. His passion for the water reinforces his desire to see others enjoying the pleasure of a holiday at sea. You can be guaranteed that Chris will put his all into making your stay on board LADY JOY the holiday of a lifetime.

Captain (Rotation): Simon Alway

Simon grew up on the southwest coast of England, becoming quite the sailor as a teenager during holiday trips on the family boat. From then on, there was not a doubt in his mind that he wanted to turn his passion into a career and live life at sea. After studying Yacht Manufacturing at the Southampton Solent University, Simon worked for a boat building company in the UK, soon realizing that he would rather work on yachts than build them. He then spent the Winter from 1999-2000 sailing in and around the English Channel before taking the big leap in 2000 and joining his first vessel, a fifty meter motor yacht. Ever since, Simon has been developing extensive cruising experience in the Mediterranean as well as the Bahamas, Caribbean, US East coast and many Atlantic crossings. With his knowledge, expertise and his love of the ocean, Simon always makes sure that guests are provided with an enjoyable and unforgettable cruising experience.

Chief Engineer: Brian Bell

Brian comes to LADY JOY well equipped with over sixteen years of yachting experience. Originally from New Orleans, he traveled the United States with a military family and thus his desire for discovering new places was ignited. Throughout his yachting career, Brian has traversed nearly every ocean on the planet including the Pacific, Mediterranean, Caribbean and the Aegean. In contrast to his many hours spent at sea, Brian’s spare time is enjoyed with recreational activities in the sky, as he is both an accomplished pilot and avid kite surfer. You can rest assured that during your time on board LADY JOY, the vessel is in the hands of an experienced and capable engineer.

After graduating, she managed her own marketing company, and in 2010, a passion for travel and photography encouraged her to explore the world and to enter the yachting industry. She is never one to say no to a challenge and will stop at nothing to keep others smiling. Marguerite is a dedicated hard worker, but also knows how to have fun, and these qualities have enabled her to swiftly rise to the rank of First Officer. Her love of outdoor sports, including skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving is infectious. Marguerite is an avid wakeboarder and will happily coach you until you are looking like a pro, and she will ensure that your holiday on board LADY JOY is one you will never forget.

During his travels, he realized that his love for the water would lead him to a yachting career. He received most of his diplomas by March 2015 and joined LADY JOY soon afterwards. A well-rounded sport enthusiast, Dylan enjoys all water sports, as well as snowboarding and motorbike riding. He is very excited to share his passion with the guests, both in the water and on land.

Daniela began her yachting career four years ago and has travelled most of the Mediterranean and the Bahamas. She enjoys trying new hobbies, has recently taken up surfing, and is currently completing a diving course. She enjoys Yoga, golf, hiking, skateboarding and pretty much anything that gets her outside.

After completing her studies, and with a desire to discover the world, Tenielle left home to join her first yacht four years ago, sailing the seas to the delight of all who have met her.
